Global Warming World Bank Climate Aid
June 20th, 2007
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will cooperate with the World Bank in writing a framework for working to reduce global warming, Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayothin said on Friday.
The framework will be finished in two weeks, then submitted to World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. as a request for financial support in its implementation.
"The BMA plans to implement a pilot project in the Silom and Sathorn areas," Governor Apirak said. "We will tackle many environmental problems, including water pollution and waste management. The ultimate goal is to reduce carbon dioxide, the main cause of global warming."
The Bangkok governor made the statements after receiving Thailand-based World Bank representatives for a meeting to boost cooperation between the Bank and the BMA in tackling global warming.
He added that Friday's meeting was a result of his prior meeting with a group of senior World Bank executives in Washington during his participation in the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit last month.
C40 is a grouping comprised of the world's largest cities which are now committed to tackling climate change. (TNA)
